Abel Communications is a growing PR firm in Baltimore specializing in media relations and marketing communications programs for businesses in a growth mode. We have a strong base of retainer clients in the technology and creative services sectors, and seek to grow in those areas and sports properties and products.

We are looking for a driven and ambitious full-time account executive to work directly with clients to help manage and grow our business.

The position is ideal for someone with confidence and know-how, preferably with at least 2-3 years experience at a PR agency; or an in-house communications role at a company frequently in the news. Candidates with direct media experience (former reporters, editors, producers, etc.) also valued.

Job Responsibilities:

• PR Campaign Development – knowledge and ability to bring proven PR tactics to our clients, see them through, and get results.
• Writing – development of press releases and case studies.
• Media Relations- ability to work confidently with reporters to pitch ideas and generate coverage; must have solid, well-established contacts in the media.
• Client service – ability to work hand in hand with clients to understand their needs, be on call for requests, and follow through.
• Reporting – prepare regular updates on activities and next steps.
• Experience with social media and Web 2.0 Tactics – our clients demand fresh ideas and innovation approaches, we are looking for someone who “gets it” when it comes to social media and Web 2.0.
• Creativity is a must – this job is not about being told what to do and then doing it, it’s about adding value with your own ideas, especially as they might relate to leveraging new media and online opportunities to drive campaigns and awareness.

Compensation will be based on experience. What You’ll Be Doing!

Unlike internships at other companies, Abel Communications interns get to experience the full breadth of PR agency work. Our program enables students to develop confidence and marketable skills in a real life business setting.

Responsibilities and activities include:

• Working in an exciting entrepreneurial environment you will research industries and statistics for media outreach and new business presentations.
• WRITE! Create communications materials - press releases, case studies, media advisories, etc.
• Pinpoint target media by building media lists, expediting media relations and outreach process.
• Sit in on conference calls and join in brainstorming sessions.
• Phone pitching – learn what to say and how to say it!
• Actively participate in the day-to-day activities for a diverse range of accounts.
• Assist with administrative duties that serve our clients and company, such as website copywriting, cataloging media clips and develop company marketing materials.

What Are We Looking For?

Abel Communications is looking for outgoing, articulate students who are conscientious, hard-working, have good writing skills and, most importantly, have a hunger to learn and get ahead! Qualified candidates must be currently enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at the college junior or senior level of study.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required.  Proficiency on the MAC – Adobe Software, Photoshop, In-design a plus!  We're looking for candidates with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong leadership skills, professionalism, maturity, responsibility, and self-motivation. Requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team

What You Need To Know

Abel Communications internships are all year round, starting each season: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. This is an unpaid internship - you are trading your time for experience and knowledge.  However, interns are reimbursed for reasonable commuting transportation expenses. 

We work with students to ensure they receive college credits for their work if applicable at their college. Interns must be available for a minimum of 2 full days per week – time is flexible.
